The Untapped (Free) Support Available for ADHD

Maybe you’re a neurodivergent woman with ADHD and work feels overwhelming or exhausting, you may qualify for fully funded ADHD coaching through the UK government’s Access to Work scheme — including support right here in Manchester and surrounding areas.

So many neurodivergent women are surviving instead of thriving in workplaces that were never built with our brains in mind.

You might be brilliant, creative, and capable, yet still wrestle with overwhelm, emotional burnout, executive dysfunction, or the constant hum of imposter syndrome. The type that sits deep in your belly, that reminds you every now and again that you’ve been holding your breath all day. Something doesn’t feel right, and you can never put your finger on it - or even explain it, if you wanted to.

The truth is, it’s not you.

It’s the system.

And there’s support available - real, funded support - that can help you build a life and career that actually works for your brain, not against it. To me, and to my clients, it feels like the UK government’s best kept secret.

What Is Access to Work?

Access to Work is a UK government scheme that helps people with a disability or health condition — including ADHD, Autism, and other forms of neurodivergence — get the support they need to stay well and succeed at work.

It can fund:

– Assistive technology and equipment

– Travel adjustments

Specialist ADHD coaching — focused on managing stress, emotional regulation, and productivity in ways that actually honour your wiring.

And the strangest part… So few women even know it exists.

How ADHD Coaching Helps

I’ve seen first-hand how transformational this support can be.

Access-to-Work-funded coaching isn’t therapy or performance management.

It’s about understanding yourself, removing shame, and creating strategies that fit you.

Less burnout, more balance — learning how to work with your energy and attention.

Better focus and follow-through — systems that stick because they’re built for your brain.

Clearer communication — expressing needs without guilt or apology.

Deeper self-trust — finally feeling capable, and a little less chaotic (although accepting certain levels of our chaos actually improves our ‘productivity’ by channelling it in ways which suit us).

The Ripple Effect

When women start to understand their ADHD and regulate their nervous systems, everything changes.

Relationships feel easier. Especially those tense ones with colleagues.

Energy returns. You’re not forcing it in unhelpful places.

Joy and creativity come back online. And you can advocate for yourself to protect it.

It’s part professional development and full personal liberation.

How to Apply

You don’t need to have a formal diagnosis, just evidence that ADHD (or similar traits) impacts your work.

  1. Apply online at Access to Work – GOV.UK

  2. You’ll be contacted by a caseworker to discuss what support you need.

  3. Funding is agreed (for example, around £120 per hour for specialist coaching).

  4. You choose a coach you feel safe and seen with.

That’s when the real work begins — finding rhythm, boundaries, and a gentler pace that lets you thrive.

ADHD Coaching in Manchester & UK

As an ADHD coach based in Manchester, I support neurodivergent women through trauma-informed, neuro-affirming coaching — and can guide you through the Access to Work application and funding process.

So many of us have been taught to “just try harder,” when what we really need is a different kind of help.

Access to Work is that help — a doorway to the tools, understanding, and space you deserve.

You don’t have to wait until you’re burnt out to ask for it.

If you want personalised support — whether funded via Access to Work or not — I offer tailored ADHD coaching that meets your nervous system, not just your to-do list. Explore services here:
